15 Year Pedestal is based on gestures of marking a spot underneath a highway overpass. Originally constructed in 2001 along the Tennessee River, it has since sustained ground erosion and is frequented by visitors. The site has acquired a life of its own in the public realm. It was originally created as a site-specific sculpture and has evolved into a rest area: a place of repose. When sitting or standing on the pedestal facing outward, you lose sight of your surroundings and can feel as if you’re hovering beside the river.
